RICHMOND, Va. - Midway through Sunday's race at Richmond International Raceway, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch found themselves battling for the lead - much the same way the two were in May when Busch ran into Earnhardt Jr. and neither won the race.
This time, it was Earnhardt Jr. who sent Busch spinning and out of contention for the race win. Was it payback?
"No, but it certainly is ironic," Earnhardt Jr. said.
Busch rallied from a lap down to finish 15th, while Earnhardt Jr. ended up fourth. Busch laid claim to the top seed in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, while Earnhardt Jr. is seeded fourth.
"We got tore up a little bit there, but nothing we could help with that," said Busch, whose spin was met by a thunderous cheer from the fans on hand. "We had to continue on and soldier on."
Earnhardt Jr. took the blame.
"I got in too hard into (Turn) 1 and locked the left-front up and pushed in to him and wrecked him," he said. "It was an accident. Those things seem to happen. Not on purpose, as much as I would like to take credit for it."
