Penske Racing is officially announcing today that David Stremme will take over in the No. 12 Dodges in 2009.
Stremme, 31, will replace Ryan Newman, the 2008 Daytona 500 champion, who is leaving to drive the No. 39 Chevrolets for Stewart-Haas Racing next season.
Stremme has made 75 career Sprint Cup starts, driving full seasons in 2006 and 2007 for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. His best career finish has been an eighth at Talladega in 2006.
Stremme has also made 125 starts in the Nationwide Series. He's driving the No. 64 Chevrolets in that series this year, with five top-five and 13 top-10 finishes.
Newman will make his 250th Cup start this weekend in the No. 12 Dodge at Richmond. He has 13 career victories.
