Jeb Burton, Ward's son, ready to roll

The Charlotte Observer

Friday, Aug. 15, 2008

Jeb Burton, the 16-year-old son of former Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton, plans to make his racing debut Saturday night at South Boston (Va.) Speedway when he competes in a pair of 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division events.

"I am a little nervous and there will be some pressure on me, but, hopefully, we will have a good outcome," the younger Burton said. "All my family will be there.

"I'd love to win, but if I could get a good finish, maybe in the top eight or even the top five, I think we would all walk away feeling pretty satisfied."

Jeb Burton will find plenty of family reminders at the track itself, which features grandstands named in honor of his father and also his uncle, Jeff Burton, who still competes in the Sprint Cup Series.

Jeb Burton's plans include finishing out the remaining Limited Sportsman races at South Boston and competing for the division's championship in 2009.
