NFL's Randy Moss buys into NASCAR Truck series team

The Charlotte Observer

Sunday, Jun. 29, 2008

LOUDON, N.H. - Ten-year NFL veteran Randy Moss has purchased a majority interest in Morgan Dollar Motorsports and plans to begin fielding entries in the Craftsman Truck Series with the July 19 race at Kentucky Speedway, The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com have learned.

A formal announcement of the new venture is expected Thursday at Daytona International Speedway, sources said.

The team, which would be called Randy Moss Motorsports, is expected to continue its long-standing relationship with Chevrolet and plans to enter several events this season with intentions of running two full-time Truck teams in 2009, the sources said.

Morgan Dollar has used upstart Landon Cassill in five races so far this season in the No. 46 Chevrolets. Cassill and another Sprint Cup Series driver could be used in some events this season.

Veteran Johnny Benson is a candidate for one truck next season, with the second truck likely to be split among several rookies.

Moss, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, announced his intentions in April to get involved in the Truck series.

"I'd like to be able to have our team work with some of the young guys that are working hard to make it up the ladder, but right now it might make more sense to find a driver with a lot of experience to get us started," Moss said at the time.
