Tony Stewart contributes to flood relief

Associated Press

Tuesday, Jun. 17, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Tony Stewart is helping flood victims in his hometown.

Stewart's portion of the $136,986 prize for finishing fifth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan will go the American Red Cross for flood relief in Columbus.

"I'm happy we got a top-five for everyone in Columbus and that we can do something to help our community out," Stewart said after Sunday's race.

"It's been on my mind all weekend. That's what this top-five is for," he said. "When it's your own community and your own neighbors, it's good to generate a good amount of winnings for them."

Stewart's share — about 40 percent — is almost $55,000.
