AFTER TALLADEGA RANKINGS

Kyle Busch shoots to top of rankings after Talladega win

The Charlotte Observer

Monday, Apr. 28, 2008

That's Racin' ranks the top 40 teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series after the Aaron's 499 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Rankings are based on team performance and potential for success. (Last week's ranking in parentheses):

1. (3) Kyle Busch - car No. 18

No way to deny this team with the sport's hottest driver the top spot this week.

2. (2) Jeff Burton - car No. 31

Keeps piling up points like a .400 hitter in baseball getting three singles a day.

3. (4) Denny Hamlin - car No. 11

The way he pushed people at Talladega he should have had a bulldozer sponsor.

4. (1) Carl Edwards - car No. 99

Talladega was tough. He nearly ski-jumped a car Saturday then had tire woes Sunday.

5. (5) Dale Earnhardt Jr. - car No. 88

Hasn't won yet, but if you're going to tread water third in the points is an OK place.

6. (7) Jimmie Johnson - car No. 48

Pushed his way to the front at Talladega but didn't have enough friends to stick there.

7. (6) Tony Stewart - car No. 20 Bad Talladega finish but he had a bad hot rod and totally dominated the discussion.

8. (8) Clint Bowyer - car No. 07

Did what anyone hopes to at Talladega. He dodged disaster and got a decent finish.

9. (9) Greg Biffle - car. No. 16

Sometimes it seems Roush Fenway Racing goes through the motions at plate tracks.

10. (10) Kevin Harvick - car No. 29

Watch for this team to have a higher profile at Richmond. It loves the short tracks.

11. (13) Ryan Newman - car No. 12

Daytona 500 champion led a charge of some pretty racy Dodges at Talladega.

12. (12) Jeff Gordon - car No. 24

One move away from a much better finish at Talladega, but that's the trick there.

13. (11) Mark Martin/Aric Almirola - car No. 8

14. (17) Juan Pablo Montoya - car No. 42

15. (15) Kasey Kahne - car No. 9

16. (18) David Ragan - car No. 6

17. (14) Martin Truex Jr. - car No. 1

18. (16) Matt Kenseth - car No. 17

19. (20) Casey Mears - car No. 5

20. (19) Kurt Busch - car No. 2
