Here's your sign - and it's a pretty good one for Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The Charlotte Observer

Saturday, Apr. 05, 2008

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Friday that when he does well in practice and qualifying it's usually a good sign. If that's true, Sunday's Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway could be a very good day.

Earnhardt won his eighth pole with his lap at 190.907 mph.

"If we qualify well, that's usually a great sign we have a good opportunity to run well in the race," said Earnhardt Jr., who finished second Aug. 5 at Pocono (Pa.) the last time he won a pole.

"I don't consider myself a great qualifier," he said. "I can get the job done, but anytime we get a pole, it gives me and anybody who works with me confidence."

Earnhardt Jr. is looking for his first Sprint Cup victory since joining Hendrick Motorsports this year. None of his 17 Cup victories has come from the pole, and he has not won in 68 races.
