Foyt's approach halted rival's gestures, DW says

The Charlotte Observer

Friday, Feb. 15, 2008

Darrell Waltrip said that early in his career he went to veteran A.J. Foyt for some advice.

“I said, ‘Every time I get behind Buddy Baker he shakes his fist at me,’” Waltrip said. “‘I’m not sure what he’s trying to tell me, and what to do about it.’

"A.J. said, ‘About the time he takes his hand off steering wheel ... knock the hell out of him. He won’t ever shake his fist at you again.’

“I tried it, and it worked.”
