Kristensen’s team in lead as he bids for eighth 24 Hours of Le Mans win

The Associated Press

Saturday, Jun. 16, 2007

LE MANS, France – Tom Kristensen, seeking his eighth victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, and Audi co-driver Dindo Capello took the lead Saturday on the first lap of the world’s most famous endurance race.

Capello moved to the front after Sebastien Bourdais of France slid off the track in his Peugeot to drop from pole position to fourth place.

Kristensen, a Dane who is racing despite being injured in a crash in April, already holds the record with seven Le Mans wins. Audi is coming off three straight Le Mans victories, and was the first car manufacturer to triumph last year with a diesel-powered car.

A total of 54 cars started in the 75th edition of the race, which will end Sunday afternoon.
