Burned ALMS fueler released from hospital

The Associated Press

Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS - A De Ferran Motorsports crewman critically burned in a pit fire last month was released from an Indianapolis burn center on Wednesday.

Fueler Keith Jones returned to his Greenwood home and will attend rehabilitation at Wishard Hospital, the team said.

Jones was burned during an American Le Mans Series race July 19 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

De Ferran's Simon Pagenaud was at the wheel when the car pulled away from the pit with the fuel hose still attached, igniting the fire. Safety workers quickly put out the fire, but Jones was briefly caught in the flames.

It marked only the second event for the team headed by former Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran.
