HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Landon Cassill may not have much lined up for next season, but right now he can celebrate his accomplishments this year.
Cassill, who drove a partial Nationwide Series schedule for JR Motorsports this year, was named the Nationwide rookie of the year following Saturday's Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Cassill edged Bryan Clauson for the honor.
"I had some really good races, and at times it didn't look so good and at times it looked great," said Cassill, who finished with one pole and five top-10 finishes in 19 starts this season.
"It was a real compliment to me and it was flattering when we went to Phoenix and all my guys knew it was my last race and their focus was getting me the finish I needed. And I can't thank them enough for being that focused."
Cassill is the third rookie of the year to win while driving a partial schedule, joining David Stremme (2003) and Danny O'Quinn (2006).
