Worker pulled from water at Jarrett home

The Charlotte Observer

Friday, May. 16, 2008

A landscaper working at Dale Jarrett's Lake Hickory home was pulled unconscious from the water Friday and was in cardiac arrest when he was rushed to the hospital, authorities said.

The man, whom authorities would not name, was mowing the lawn at Jarrett's waterfront house in Hickory, said Catawba County Emergency Services Director David Weldon, when the riding lawnmower went into the lake.

The man was pulled from the water, Weldon said, and had gone into cardiac arrest when emergency rescuers arrived. He was not breathing when he was taken to the hospital, authorities said.

Weldon did not know who called 911, only that the call came from a Jarrett, he said.

The lawn worker's condition was not available Friday evening.
