Robby Gordon told ESPN.com this weekend that if he doesn't win his appeal of NASCAR penalties this week he may choose try running an Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 same-day double this year.
"If the fine sticks, I will go to the Indianapolis 500," Gordon said. "The only way I wouldn't is if we're in a position to make the Chase."
Gordon lost 100 driver points and 100 car owner points and was fined $100,000 for having an unapproved nose on his No. 7 Dodge in inspections before the Daytona 500. He contends the part was supplied to him by Dodge via a clerical error and that it gave him no advantage.
Gordon's appeal is scheduled to be heard Wednesday.
Gordon ran both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Changes in starting times for those races have made the double more challenging logistically in recent years.
