Settlement reached in crash of NASCAR plane, more from the motorsports notebook

The Charlotte Observer

Monday, Jan. 14, 2008

Short takes from the motorsports notebook:

  • An insurance company representing NASCAR has reached a settlement with Joseph Woodard, whose wife and 6-month-old son were killed when a NASCAR-owned plane crashed into their Florida home while trying to make an emergency landing in July.

Dr. Bruce Kennedy, the husband of NASCAR board member Lesa France Kennedy, and NASCAR pilot Michael Klemm were in the plane and both were killed, as was a 4-year-old child in a second house that was hit.

  • Crews have started putting down the first of two layers of asphalt on the track’s surface as a $10 million improvement project continues at Darlington Raceway.
