KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Last weekend’s Nextel Cup race at Dover, Del., received a 3.5 rating on ABC, down 5 percent from last season, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Last year’s race received a 3.7, but was aired on TNT. This year’s race actually saw an increase in household viewership (3.9 million over 3.4 million in 2006) because of the difference in network and cable TV.
For the second week in a row the race was not ranked among the top-five sports programs of the weekend.
Last weekend’s Busch race received a 1.4 rating on ESPN2, down from a 1.5 on TNT in 2006. The Truck series race from Las Vegas saw a 25-percent increase over last season, receiving a 0.5 rating on Speed.
