CONCORD, N.C. - NASCAR has placed the mounting brackets seized from Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s No. 8 Chevrolet at Darlington, S.C., on display in the NASCAR hauler.
The brackets incorrectly mounted the rear wing of Earnhardt Jr.’s car of tomorrow and resulted in a $100,000 fine, 100-point driver and car owner penalties and six-race suspension for Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief, Tony Eury Jr.
Accompanying the brackets is a diagram of what the correct brackets should look like and a correct bracket to be used for comparison. The brackets from the No. 8 car are at some points nearly a half-inch smaller than the mandated size.
NASCAR officials said every team has the same diagram of the correct size and appearance of the rear wing brackets.
