Notes: Bobby Labonte rotating rides
Wednesday, Jun. 12, 2013
Former Cup champion Bobby Labonte will drive the No. 51 Chevrolet this weekend at Michigan for Phoenix Racing in what is a one-race agreement.
A.J. Allmendinger will drive in place of Labonte in JTG Daughtery Racing's No. 47 and will do a handful of other races in the car the rest of the season.
"Racing for another team this weekend will be another process in helping me understand the development of the new car and how it compares to my current ride," Labonte said. "I'm not happy with our current performance level as a team and absolutely want to work hard to help our race team improve."
Kelly returning to NASCAR
Australian Owen Kelly will return to NASCAR competition, driving in a pair of Nationwide Series races for Joe Gibbs Racing this summer.
Kelly, who finished fifth at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., during 2010 in his only series start, will drive the No. 54 Toyota in the June 22 race at Road America and at Mid-Ohio on Aug.17.
Kelly has been racing V8 Supercars in Australia.
Blaney's Truck team penalized
Truck series driver Ryan Blaney was docked six points by NASCAR and his crew chief, Doug Randolph, was fined $5,000 after the team's No. 29 Ford failed to meet the minimum height requirement in postrace inspection last weekend at Texas.
Brad Keselowski also was penalized six owner points.
Preece set for Nationwide debut
Tommy Baldwin Racing will field an entry in next month's Nationwide Series race at New Hampshire for NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour regular Ryan Preece.
Preece, a 22-year-old Connecticut native, has a long list of motorsports accomplishments. He has finished as the Whelen Modified Tour championship runner-up twice. In addition, he has won 11 poles with five victories.
Preece is tied for second in points this season and leads the points at Stafford Speedway.
