Kasey Kahne’s team doesn’t mind rolling in the dirt

Kasey Kahne climbs into his car Thursday for practice for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
CONCORD Kasey Kahne is looking to double up at Charlotte this weekend and not just in Sunday’s NASCAR race.
His Kasey Kahne Racing team is looking for a repeat win in Friday night’s Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Joey Saldana, who no longer drives for KKR, won the event last year and Kahne won the Coca-Cola 600.
“We’ve had lots of fun at The Dirt Track. We’ve won some races over there; we have done a lot of testing at the dirt track,” Kahne said.
“I get really excited when I race in Charlotte. We have two weeks where we have the All-Star Race, the 600, the Sprint Car World of Outlaw race across the street, the Saturday (Nationwide) race; there is always something going on here.”
This year, KKR driver Daryn Pittman looks to be the favorite as he already has five wins.
“It’s not that it pays better or not that it’s any different of a race, but it’s more of an event,” says Pittman about racing during the same weekend as the Coca-Cola 600.
“Those are always the ones that are the most fun to be a part of.”
Hot laps for the Showdown begin at 6 p.m. Also Friday night, late model drivers will battle for a victory and $2,000 prize in the NDRA Crate Late Model Series A-Main race.
