DARLINGTON, S.C. – Darlington Raceway's director of emergency services Robert Garland has received NASCAR's Track Services Innovation Award for his management of the track's SAFER barrier inventory.

The award was announced this week in Charlotte, N.C.

Garland said he was humbled by the honor. He says he's proud that NASCAR recognized Darlington's efforts to be more efficient and timely with its response to things that happen during a race weekend.

Garland has led fire and emergency response teams the past three years. He has been part of the fire department for the city of Darlington for 32 years.

The next Cup race at Darlington is scheduled to take place May 11.
