Jimmie Johnsons sponsor in the Cup series, Lowes, will match the earnings of the five-time champion from Sundays race at Texas, with a minimum donation of $250,000 to the American Red Cross in its relief efforts from Hurricane Sandy.
Lowes announced it would donate $1 million to disaster relief and rebuilding efforts in affected communities. Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports will donate an additional $48,000 to the Red Cross.
Warren goes to work at RCR
Dr. Eric Warren, who was planning to become competition director at Richard Childress Racing at seasons end, has started his position.
Warren left Richard Petty Motorsports this week and began work at RCR and is in Texas working with RCRs Cup programs.
Warrens early move coincided with Drew Blickensderfers move from crew chief of RCRs No. 31 team to RPMs No. 9 team.
Logano paired with Gordon
Joey Logano, who is moving to Penske Racings No. 22 team next season, will have Todd Gordon as his crew chief.
Gordon has served as the teams crew chief this season with drivers A.J. Allmendinger and Sam Hornish Jr., who is in the car through the end of the year.
EGR to run Hendrick engines
Beginning next year, Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates will utilize Cup series engines from Hendrick Motorsports. The organization is currently uses engines from Earnhardt Childress Racing.
