Busch debuts with new team: Former Cup champion Kurt Busch makes his debut with Furniture Row Racings No. 78 Chevrolet this weekend. Busch replaced Smith for the final six races this season and will compete with the team in 2013.
This weekend begins a new chapter in my racing career and also a new chapter for Furniture Row Racing, said Busch. The excitement level about driving the No. 78 is at a high pitch and I cant wait to get started.

Lyn-z Pastrana is the better half: Lyn-z Pastrana, wife of X Games star and Nationwide series driver Travis Pastrana, won the second annual Better Half Dash, a charity race featuring many of the girlfriends and wives of NASCAR drivers.
Pastrana held off defending champion Jacquelyn Butler, fiancee of Cup driver David Ragan, to win the race.
I was white-knuckled the entire race, Lyn-z said. I was so nervous. My biggest concern was I didnt want to race dirty.
Kulwicki scholarship winner named: The Lee College of Engineering at UNC Charlotte has awarded its Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship to Matthew Piercy of Conover. The presentation of the 2012 scholarship will be made during pre-race ceremonies for Friday nights Dollar General 300.
The four-year Kulwicki Scholarship, established in 1994, is given in memory of late NASCAR Cup champion Alan Kulwicki, who lost his life in a plane crash in 1993.
JRM renews sponsorship: JR Motorsports signed a long-term contract extension with the online tax preparation service, TaxSlayer.com, to sponsor 17 races in the Nationwide Series next season, including the 2013 season opener with Dale Earnhardt Jr. at the wheel.
Penalty announced: Ted Walters, crew chief of the No. 57 team in the Truck Series, was fined $5,000 and placed on probation through Dec. 31 for having improperly attached weight to the truck bed cover. The infraction was discovered last weekend at Talladega, Ala.
