More than 200 Legends car drivers will battle on Charlotte Motor Speedway's quarter-mile oval Monday and Tuesday for a share of a $100,000 purse.
Competitors from 22 states and Canada have registered for the Big Money 100, including Sprint Cup driver and Daytona winner David Ragan. Also among them are NASCAR development drivers Darrell Wallace Jr. and Gray Gaulding, along with last years Legends Million winner, Daniel Hemric.
The overall winner will earn $25,000, while the Masters division winner gets $5,000 and the Semi-Pro winner $4,000.
Qualifying and heat races for three divisions are scheduled Monday. B-main races and the 100-lap main event will be run Tuesday.
Thirty drivers will race their way into the main.
"What were excited about at Charlotte Motor Speedway is simply this: We get the opportunity to put men and women, boys and girls in race cars for more money than they may ever race for in their lives, said Speedway Motorsports Inc. executive Don Hawk.
They have fun, but at the end of the day somebodys going to leave here with a whole lot of money. We think were going to give people a great family experience.
Last year's Legends Million with its $1 million purse might have intimidated some competitors, Hawk said. The speedway reduced the purse by lowering the entry fee for competitors from $500 to $100. The reaction has been positive, Hawk said.
