Montoya vs. Newman? So last week

DARLINGTON, S.C. – It was a high-stakes version of tit-for-tat.

After tangling on the track in the final five laps of Saturday night’s race at Darlington Raceway, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch took their feud to pit road.

The two appeared to play a game of chicken, seeing who would stop on pit road first after the race. Harvick finally stopped his car, with Busch stopped right behind him.

Harvick climbed from his car first, ran toward the driver’s window of Busch’s car and threw at least one punch. At same moment, Busch hit his accelerator and his No. 18 Toyota lurched forward, knocking Harvick’s No. 29 Chevrolet out of the way and into the pit road retaining wall.

It wasn’t over yet.

Harvick marched toward Busch’s team hauler in the garage before officials summoned both drivers to the NASCAR hauler. The two drivers and their respective team owners met with NASCAR officials for several minutes.

“Obviously, we were just racing hard and doing what we had to do there at the end and things happen,” Harvick said afterward.

“Nothing really to tell you other than not much."

Asked if the situation with Busch was settled Harvick said, “You saw the end,” and walked away.

Busch called the incident on the track “unacceptable racing.”

“You know, it’s the last couple of laps, but I gave him room off (Turn) 2, I didn’t get the room,” he said. “Just real unfortunate. I hate we tore up a few good cars there.”

NASCAR officials said the discussion dealt with the drivers' post-race actions only. If there are any penalties, they would be announced after NASCAR's weekly competition meeting on Tuesday.

Neither driver took a hit in the series standings. Busch finished 11th and remained third in points. Harvick finished 17th and remained fifth in the standings.
