Shelmerdine selling racing assets
Kirk Shelmerdine, who worked as crew chief for Dale Earnhardt from 1984 until 1992, is putting his race team assets up for public auction on Sept. 14.
After turning his focus to driving in 1993, Shelmerdine won three times in ARCA competition and entered events in all three of NASCAR's top touring series.
He is selling his race shop located in Welcome, N.C., plus a Featherlite car hauler, three Cup cars, pit equipment, shop equipment, other vehicles and parts.

Conway joins Robby Gordon Motorsports
Cup rookie Kevin Conway will finish out the 2010 season at Robby Gordon Motorsports and will drive the No. 7 Toyota in Sunday’s race at Atlanta.
Conway’s sponsor, ExtenZe, is moving with him.
Conway has one previous start for RGM, at Bristol, Tenn., two weeks ago. He made 21 starts earlier this season with Front Row Motorsports.
Gordon, meanwhile, will compete this weekend in a Traxxas TORC series event in Wisconsin.
Nationwide owner penalized
NASCAR this week fined Nationwide Series car owner Johnny Davis $5,000 in connection with an altercation on pit road after Sunday’s race at Montreal.
Davis, owner of the No. 01 that was driven by Mike Wallace in the road course event, was also placed him on probation through the end of the year.
