NASCAR's Poston leaving amid PR shift
Monday, Aug. 30, 2010
Ramsey Poston, who has served as NASCAR's managing director of corporate communications since 2003, will step down by the end of the 2010 season as NASCAR undertakes a reorganization of its communications department.
The restructuring centers on the creation of an integrated marketing communications department, which will oversee all media relations and communications functions for NASCAR’s racing series and includes the hiring of a chief communications officer.
The position should be filled by the end of the year. Once filled, Poston will resign his current position and work as a consultant to NASCAR.
In his role as managing director of corporate communications, Poston has overseen all aspects of the company’s communications including on-track competition communications for all 11 NASCAR series, business communications, lifestyle communication and issues management.
Earlier this season, NASCAR commissioned a four-month study of its communications operations. The results of the study led to the creation of the new COO position and the expected addition of upwards of 25 additional public relations staff members.
