Hornaday, Busch lead way
Saturday, Mar. 06, 2010
Ron Hornaday, the four-time Truck series champion, starts Saturday's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway from the pole.
Hornaday posted a lap at 177.721 mph in Camping World Truck Series qualifying Saturday morning. Starting second in the E-Z-GO 200 is Kyle Busch, the 2009 Nationwide Series champion. Matt Crafton, Kevin Harvick and Austin Dillon round out the top five.
Busch is in a Toyota, while the other four are Chevrolet entries.
The race was scheduled to start shortly after 2 p.m. Eastern time, with coverage on Speed.
Returning to the track and appearing to have gained some momentum is Geoffrey Bodine, 60. Posting a 175.682 mph lap in a Dodge, Bodine qualified eighth-fastest. He did not post a time in Friday's first session and was shown 17th fastest in the final practice.
The on-track gains followed his successful trip to the Olympics, where American bobsledders clinched two medals: gold for the four-man team and bronze for the women’s two-man team. His work with designers, athletes and others in helping advance the U.S. program have been rewarding, Bodine said.
“Just to be part of the Olympics, knowing the whole country is cheering and the whole world is watching … I’m proud, overwhelmed, in awe,” Bodine said.
Jennifer Jo Cobb's Ford will start 31st.
Two drivers, Carl Long and Chris Jones, failed to make the 36-truck field.
