Gibbs could eventually launch satellites
Monday, Jan. 18, 2010
With several Chevrolet teams branching off Hendrick Motorsports, Fords effort centered under Roush Fenway Racing and Dodge focused almost solely on Penske Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs said he wouldnt rule out trying to establish a satellite team in the future.
Toyota currently supports such teams as JGR, Red Bull and Michael Waltrips team through Toyota Racing Development, but more direct alliances bring more information-sharing and collective growth. That's reaped benefits for Hendrick and partner Stewart-Haas. JGR had a brief affiliation with Hall of Fame Racing before it realigned itself with Yates Racing and Ford.
We tried to work by the letter of the law and really have arms-length transactions, Gibbs said of the HOF association.
Heres a motor. Well try and do some body stuff for you, but you run it.
"Looking back, in all honesty, we probably would have done it a little bit differently. We would have been more involved in helping them get their cars prepared and that kind of looks like the way it needs to go, more involved.
