Crew chief changes at Roush Fenway
Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009
As Roush Fenway Racing team owner Jack Roush predicted, his organization has started some off-season crew chief changes.
Donnie Wingo, who serves as Jamie McMurray's crew chief this season in the No. 26, is taking over as crew chief for driver David Ragan effective immediately. Wingo replaces Jimmy Fennig, who will now oversee Roush's research and development department.
The No. 26 team was already being dissolved in the offseason as Roush had to move from five to a NASCAR-mandated four Sprint Cup teams in 2010.
"I'm truly looking forward to the chance to get the No. 6 Ford the finishes it deserves," Wingo said. "I'm glad to remain with Roush Fenway Racing because I believe in the success we'll be able to achieve in 2010."
Roush said Wingo would be a good fit for Ragan.
"I think Donnie brings a wealth of experience to our organization having won races for multiple teams including our organization and we are anxious to see if he can challenge David Ragan and help him to realize the potential he showed in 2008," Roush said. Ragan enters his fourth Cup season in 2010 looking to improve on this season, when he finished 27th in points with two top-10 finishes in 36 races.
"I'm proud of my time with Jimmy (Fennig), he's taught me a lot over the years, but now I'm looking forward to next year and working with Donnie Wingo and his engineer Derek (Stamets)," said Ragan.
"Those two are a great combination and it will be fun to work with someone new with fresh ideas."
