NASCAR isn't fast-tracking fuel injection
Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – If fuel injection comes to NASCAR, it won’t be before the 2011 season, officials confirmed Saturday.
NASCAR still plans several tests with a single manufacturer of fuel injection systems, which would help officials to better police the technology.
Should fuel injection be added for 2011, it would likely appear first in the Cup series, spokesman Ramsey Poston said.
Fuel injection has been the primary fuel delivery system in production engines since the late 1980s.
In the past, NASCAR has stuck with carburetors out of concern that the electronics involved in fuel injection systems could allow some teams to gain an advantage.
