Petty's Phoenix ride is prize in raffle to benefit veterans group
Friday, Nov. 13, 2009
A tribute to veterans this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway will put NASCAR legend Richard Petty in front of the race field in a World War II-era Jeep.
Petty will drive a restored 1946 Willy's Jeep that is being raffled off to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Prior to the parade laps, it will be on display outside the Arizona track, where raffle tickets will go on sale. Tickets will also be available at www.PVA.org/Jeep.
The raffle runs through the Memorial Day race weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"One of the goals is to make Veteran's Day happen year-round, not just in November," said Petty, a seven-time champion and winner of 200 NASCAR races. "We want people to realize the sacrifices that these men and women make for our freedom."
