Super Bowl's date moves Daytona 500 qualifying
Friday, Aug. 28, 2009
Due to a conflict with the Super Bowl, NASCAR and Daytona International Speedway officials on Friday announced a change to 2010 Speedweeks schedule.
Qualifying for the front row of the Daytona 500, usually scheduled the Sunday following the Budweiser Shootout, has now been moved up a day.
The change means the 2010 Shootout, the Automobile Racing Club of America series opener and 500 qualifying will all be held on Saturday, Feb. 6.
"We're excited about the new schedule," said DIS president Robin Braig. "By moving the Daytona 500 qualifying to Saturday, we are providing even more value to our race fans, who can now enjoy a unique racing triple-header as well as all the festivities surrounding the Super Bowl the following day."
The 2010 Super Bowl will be played in Miami.
Daytona 500 qualifying will begin at 1:05 p.m. on Feb. 6, followed by the ARCA race at 4:30 p.m. and the Shootout at 8:10 p.m. If recent years' schedules are followed, there would be no on-track activity on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Tickets for the tripleheader start at $40 and are available by calling (800) PIT-SHOP or at daytonainternationalspeedway.com.
