Tyler Hansbrough waves green to get race started
Sunday, Jul. 26, 2009
INDIANAPOLIS - Former University of North Carolina basketball standout Tyler Hansbrough, drafted 13th by the NBA’s Indiana Pacers last month, made his first appearance at a NASCAR event Sunday, waving the green flag to start the Allstate 400.
Asked before the race if he talked to any of the drivers, Hansbrough said, “Elliott Sadler is a big Tar Heels fan, so I talked to him. I think he watches us play a lot. I met him, and he is a really good dude. I am a Sadler fan and a (Dale Earnhardt) Junior fan.”
Hansbrough said he was impressed with the facility and its size.
“It is kind of different for a guy that doesn’t follow NASCAR that much to come out here and see all the things in the pits, how they work,” he said. “It’s really neat.”
