Friday, May. 15, 2009
NASCAR makes its annual spring stop in North Carolina, and state officials are warning motorists to be wary of potential traffic problems through the Memorial Day weekend.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing for race events at Lowe's Motor Speedway. An all-star race, the 600-mile race and associated activities could cause problems on Interstate 85, U.S. 29 and N.C. 49 during the next two weeks starting Friday.
On Sunday, May 24, officials will limit access from I-85 to Exit 49.
A statement issued by DOT on said the department will utilize overhead message signs and portable message signs to alert motorists of problem areas and suggested alternate routes around incidents and congestion. Information will also be available online.
