LONG POND, Pa. - Mark Martin may be out of the Chase for the Nextel Cup in driver’s points, but his continued strong finishes in the No. 01 Chevrolet keep him locked in the top 12 in owner points.
Martin finished ninth Sunday, his second consecutive top-10 showing since joining Dale Earnhardt Inc.
The race also marked the end of his team’s use of Hendrick Motorsports engines. Next week, the No. 01 will begin using Dale Earnhardt Inc. engines. The No. 01 was absorbed by DEI two weeks ago.
“I can’t tell you how impressed I am with (crew chief) Ryan Pemberton and the entire team,” said Martin, who finished seventh here in June.
“With all they’ve had to contend with the past two weeks and then to come out and claim back-to-back top-10 finishes says so much about the character of this race team.
“It also says so much about why I wanted to come back and drive this team’s race car again next year.”
