LONG POND, Pa. - After sweeping both Pocono races in 2006, Denny Hamlin could not replicate a win at the 2.5-mile track this season.
Hamlin did, however, continue his impressive run at the track, adding a third-place finish in Sunday's Pennsylvania 500 to the sixth he recorded here in June. He has three top-five finishes in four races at the track, with sixth being his worst.
“We fought brake issues ... and just couldn’t get in to the corner like we needed to and it just affected our handling,” said Hamlin, who remains second in points, 366 behind leader Jeff Gordon. Busch “was just the class of the field.
“We were a little bit off the setup, there are a whole lot of details it takes to win and we just didn’t get them right.”
