That’s Racin’s David Poole ranks the top 40 teams in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series following the Chevy 400 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.
Before you start, Jeff Gordon didn't have more than 300 points "taken" from him by the Chase for the Nextel Cup format.
Edwards, shortly after taking the lead from Gordon, has his engine go up in smoke. That takes one of the potential winners out of the picture.
Kurt Busch’s rally to make the Chase wound up with him scoring the 10th-most points in the regular season, but thanks to having two victories he’ll start the Chase with 5,020 points. He and Carl Edwards are at that number, behind only Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.
Denny Hamlin led 17 laps in Saturday night’s race, but instead off getting the win he covets at what amounts to his home track, the driver from Chesterfield, Va., came home sixth.
David Reutimann’s future in the Nextel Cup Series is the object of much speculation these days. Michael Waltrip Racing is looking to nail down sponsorship to keep him in the No. 00 Toyotas, but Reutimann also is talking to other teams because he still doesn’t have a firm deal for 2008.
