closeObservations | 'Deserving?' The guy with the most points
DAVID POOLE
The Charlotte Observer
Sunday, Nov. 04, 2007
Some observations on Sunday's race from David Poole of The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com:
Please don't tell me Jeff Gordon "deserves" a championship more than Jimmie Johnson this year because of how the old system might have worked. Champions perform when everything is on the line, and in the past three weeks the No. 48 team has been incredible. If Gordon wants his fifth championship, he has to come get it.
At one point late in the race, an ABC announcer said Johnson was trying to take an "insurmountable" points lead over Gordon. For goodness sake, it's 30 points.
I didn't get to see the finish of the NFL game between New England and Indianapolis, but I understand it was riveting. NASCAR, though, can't do it any better than the way Sunday's race wrapped up. If the race gets killed in the ratings, there's not a lot NASCAR could have done - aside from starting two hours earlier.
