    Race Day at Martinsville

    The Charlotte Observer

    Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007

    Practice Update

    Points leaders still showing muscle

Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, not surprisingly, were in the top five in both of Saturday's practices. Denny Hamlin and Jamie McMurray led the early session, and Tony Raines and McMurray had the fastest laps in the final practice. Clint Bowyer, third behind Gordon and Johnson in the standings, was in the top 10 in both sessions. So was Robby Gordon, who's also flying back and forth to Texas Motor Speedway to compete in Championship Off Road Racing events there this weekend.

    Observer Picks

Jimmie Johnson: Not going to make Gordon's drive for a possible fifth championship a walk in the park.

    Jim Utter

Jeff Gordon: Returns the bump and picks up a third straight victory.
