DAVID POOLE
The Charlotte Observer
Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008
Strong winds made for challenging conditions on the first of two days of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway test.
Rookies Sam Hornish Jr. Dario Franchitti and Regan Smith and second-year Cup driver David Ragan all damaged cars in on-track incidents in the morning session.
Kyle Busch’s lap at 183.580 mph in his No. 18 Toyota in the afternoon session was the day’s best, followed by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Tony Stewart at 182.426 mph.
Carl Edwards, in a Ford, was next at 182.119, with Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounding out the top five.
