Lightning hits NASCAR driver's home
Friday, Sep. 18, 2009
MOORESVILLE – Lightning appears to have sparked a fire that caused $20,000 in damage to the Lake Norman home of NASCAR driver Greg Biffle early Friday, Mooresville fire officials said.
No one appears to have been at the Doolie Road home when the lightning struck about 6:30 a.m., Mooresville Battalion Chief J.L. Barrier said.
Biffle is in New Hampshire for Sunday's Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The home sustained heavy cosmetic damage to its front exterior, and firefighters said they found no additional damage when they searched the home.
“The house did not catch on fire,” Barrier said.
Iredell County sheriff's investigators and firefighters from Shepherds Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
Neighbors reported severe weather at the time, and conditions at the scene indicated it was a lightning strike, Mooresville fire officials said.
