HAMPTON, Ga. – Brad Keselowski has asked Tony Eury Jr. if he would be interested in becoming his full-time Sprint Cup Series crew chief next year when the 25-year-old driver moves to Penske Racing.
“Brad and I have talked about it a bit. I got to sit down and really think about what I want to do,” Eury Jr. told the Observer and ThatsRacin.com on Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“I really like Mr. (Rick) Hendrick. He’s done a lot for me and I really want to keep that relationship with him. Right now, I don’t have any plans to do anything else.”
Eury Jr., who was Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief at Hendrick until he was replaced by Lance McGrew in late May, said he has enjoyed his recent role in Hendrick Motorsports’ research and development department.
“That’s a grueling series over there, 36 weeks a year. I just don’t know if I’m ready to do 36 weeks again,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed my time off, but I am definitely looking around to see what all is out there.”
Eury Jr. said he would make a decision in the next month or so.
Keselowski, who has driven in the Nationwide Series for JR Motorsports the past two seasons, signed a multi-year deal with Penske Racing to drive its No. 12 Dodges in the Cup series beginning in 2010.
