Notebook | Robby Gordon-Gillett Evernham connection passes NASCAR muster

    The Charlotte Observer

    Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008

Short takes from the midweek Daytona notebook:

    • Although NASCAR officials are still investigating all aspects of the new relationship between Robby Gordon and Gillett-Evernham Motorsports, NASCAR vice president of racing operations Steve O'Donnell said Wednesday it does not appear Gordon will be considered a fourth Cup team for Gillette-Evernham Motorsports. That would mean GEM could add a fourth Cup program to its organization if it desires.

    • Ray Evernham has joined ESPN’s NASCAR team as an analyst. He will appear on “NASCAR Now,” will be in the booth for Nationwide Series races from Mexico City and Loudon, N.H., and will join prerace shows at selected races.

    • Brian Vickers spent his final off day of Speedweeks completing his first solo skydiving jump in Orlando.

    • Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin have been added to this year’s Gillette Young Guns team, joining Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman. The drivers will be featured with pro wrestler John Cena in a commercial during Sunday’s Daytona 500 telecast.
