New U.S. team picks site in Spain
Friday, Oct. 30, 2009
New American team USF1, slated to debut next season, has chosen Motorland Aragon in northern Spain to be its European base.
The site, equidistant between Madrid and Barcelona, will be its European logistics base for testing and development.
"From the excellent location and weather, to the rich racing heritage and diverse track configurations, MotorLand provides America's first Formula One team in more than 40 years with the perfect facility to manage the 2010 season and train for 2011 and beyond," sporting director Peter Windsor said in a statement.
The facility includes a circuit designed by renowned F1 course architect Hermann Tilke. It is hoping to become a major offseason testing facility for all teams, replacing other Spanish venues.
USF1's principal base will be in Charlotte, N.C., capitalizing on the strong motor sport infrastructure in that part of the country.
